Staying on Disney property
Disney operates resort hotels across a range of price tiers, from value-priced options to deluxe resorts on the monorail line. The appeal isn't just proximity — on-site guests typically get access to Disney's free transportation network (buses, monorail and boats between resorts and parks), and the ability to walk out of a park in the evening and be back at your hotel within a short ride rather than a long drive. The trade-off is cost: on-site resorts generally sit above off-site hotels of a comparable standard.
Lake Buena Vista
Immediately bordering Disney property, Lake Buena Vista offers a middle ground — hotels here are close enough that the drive or shuttle to the parks is short, without paying full on-site resort rates. It's a sensible pick if you want Disney convenience but are booking a hotel chain you already have loyalty points or a preferred program with.
Kissimmee / US-192
South of Disney along US-192, Kissimmee is Orlando's budget-friendly hotel corridor, with everything from basic motels to large family resorts and vacation-home communities. It's a strong choice for larger families or groups who want more space for the money, particularly in a rented townhome or villa with its own kitchen and pool — though you'll need a car, and evening drives back from the parks take longer than from on-site or Lake Buena Vista.
International Drive
International Drive ("I-Drive") sits closer to Universal Orlando and SeaWorld than to Disney, which makes it a better central base if your trip splits time across multiple resorts rather than being Disney-only. It has the widest range of restaurants, shopping and standalone attractions within walking distance of any Orlando hotel corridor.
