Where I-Drive actually sits

International Drive runs roughly parallel to I-4, close to Universal Orlando and SeaWorld, with Walt Disney World a further drive south. If your trip is Universal-heavy or splits fairly evenly across resorts, I-Drive's location works in your favour; if you're spending the large majority of your trip at Disney specifically, you'll be driving further each day than you would from Lake Buena Vista or Kissimmee (see our guide to areas near Disney).

Getting around from I-Drive

Most visitors use a rental car or ride-share to get from I-Drive to the parks — it's not realistic to walk to any of the major theme parks from most I-Drive hotels, despite the area's central-feeling location on a map. Some hotels run their own shuttles to specific parks; check exactly which parks a shuttle serves and its schedule before assuming it covers your whole itinerary.

What's on I-Drive itself

I-Drive has the widest concentration of standalone dining, shopping and entertainment of any Orlando hotel corridor, including ICON Park (home to The Wheel at ICON Park and a cluster of attractions, restaurants and entertainment venues within walking distance of many I-Drive hotels). This makes it a strong choice for evenings when you don't want to drive anywhere after a park day.

Who I-Drive suits best

  • Visitors splitting time between Universal, SeaWorld and Disney rather than a single-resort trip.
  • Travellers who want walkable dining and entertainment on non-park evenings.
  • Anyone prioritising hotel variety and price range over being closest to one specific park.
Is International Drive walkable?
Parts of it are pleasant to walk, particularly near ICON Park, but it's a long corridor — most visitors still drive or ride-share between their hotel and specific restaurants or attractions further along it.
Is I-Drive a good base for a Disney-only trip?
It's workable but not ideal — you'll have a longer daily drive than staying in Lake Buena Vista or on Disney property itself. It makes more sense if Disney is only part of your itinerary.
